The wedding and who does which speeches when......

Always a good idea to check that you do not have any really nervous people if they have to give a speech being drunk, falling or even wetting them selves might make you laugh but it’s not what they would be hoping for! Speeches aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.

Before writing your speech, keep in mind if you can’t be witty then be brief. It should last no more than ten minutes. Jot down ideas. A speech should have a beginning a middle and an end. Then write it out and practice in front of a friend and ask for an honest opinion.

Speeches are traditionally given in this order( the toastmaster would normally call for the first person but if you are not having one it would be the best mans task.)

BRIDES FATHER
Welcomes son in law into the family. Gives timely advice and toasts to the bride and groom.

GROOM
On behalf of himself and his new wife(you), thanks everyone for coming and their gifts. Thanks both sets of parents and everyone who helped with preparations. Toasts to the bridesmaids and attendants. He then calls up attendants to present their gifts.

BEST MAN
Responds on behalf of the bridesmaids.
If a TV/Video is available it is a nice gesture to show special clips filmed by those that are unable to attend.
If you are going to be staying at the venue ask the best man to inform the guests of this as they may want to leave early but are frightened of missing you leave for your honeymoon.

OTHERS
Best arranged before hand with the bride and groom.
If the bride is giving a speech(brave girl) now is the time to do so.
